In the world we live in today we are really good at spotting the fakes from those who are genuine, real, and themselves. While part of the purpose of LinkedIn is usually to get connected to potential clients we need to know how to do this in a way that is genuine. And we need to have a larger mission and vision that drives us beyond money. And this is where our about section comes in.
Your about section is where you should be sharing your story, why you love what you do, and what drives you as a person. Unfortunately too often, people use their about section as a long commercial for all the awards and services they offer. Not only will this turn people off but no one will read it. So how can we create a killer about section that people will stop to read?
Formatting
While there are different ways to format your about section here is how I format it.
Paragraph 1: In one sentence introduce what you do and why you love what you do.
Paragraph 2: Share an earlier role or life experience that brought you to where you are now. Something that revealed to you what you love doing.
Paragraph 3: Share the meat about what you do or what you want to do.
Paragraph 4:Share a sentence about a few things you enjoy doing in your free time.
Paragraph 5: Have an ending sentence telling someone how they can connect with you if they are interested in your services.
The purpose of your about section is to tell your story and why you love what you do. Help people buy into your mission and vision. Then they will want to come along for the ride and maybe even hire you.
